IDEDATA
IDE Drive Data
This function displays information about a standard
IDE drive. Shown data includes drive parameters,
translation, model&version numbers and drive name.
The data is read from the drive directly with a
command that may not be supported with all IDE
drives. This function does not work under OS/2 or
Microsoft Windows.
***
NWINFO
Network Information
This function displays either:
- NETBIOS statistics information, or
- network adapter configuration information
NETBIOS information is shown if PC-Doctor finds
an active NETBIOS driver. Network adapter info
is only available if no network drivers can be
found, and PC-Doctor directly supports the card
that is installed in the system.
***
ADDRSCAN
Base Address Scanner
This function displays available base addresses in
a system. Some motherboards allow for PC-Doctor to
scan for free memory addresses in both the I/O and
1 MB Base memory range. If your motherboard DOES
NOT SUPPORT this feature, all memory locations in
both I/O and Base Memory will be marked "In Use".
NOTE: Some hastily designed expansion cards may
cause this function to fail. If this is the
case in your system, please contact WaterGate
Software so that we can include support for
the card.
***
SCSIDEV
SCSI Devices

WRITE TEST SELECTED
*** WARNING ***
These write tests will attempt to preserve sector contents by
first reading the original contents and at the end of testing
by restoring that data. HOWEVER, an unexpected system reset or
power outage that prevents restoring the original sector
contents can cause permanent data loss to the sector that is
being tested! This data loss could disabled access to all the
information on the hard disk drive. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Halt On Errors
By default, PC-Doctor will continue testing
even if errors are detected. By enabling the
Halt On Errors -state, you can instruct
PC-Doctor to pause testing if it encounters
errors during testing.
Press ESC to cancel change. ENTER to select.

ELSH
External Loopback
Usually PC-Doctor runs an internal test of
your serial and parallel ports only. However,
if you have an external wrap plug, you can
instruct PC-Doctor to also make an external
loopback test. Specify the type of your wrap
plug here. An incorrect wrap plug setting is
likely to generate error messages even if the
port is working correctly. PC-Doctor's on-line
manual contains the wrap plug definitions in
Chapter 8.
Press ESC to cancel change. ENTER to select.

HDTT
Hard Disk Scan Type
You can select one of the following types of scans:
-Read Test: Reads sector data only (fast)
-Write/Verify: Writes sector data and uses the Verify command
to make sure the sector data is readable. (slower)
-Write/Read: Writes sector data and uses the Read command to
read back all written data, and make sure that the data came
back correctly. (slowest)
*** WARNING ***
The Write tests will attempt to preserve sector contents by
first reading the original contents and at the end of testing
by restoring that data. HOWEVER, an unexpected system reset or
power outage that prevents restoring the original sector
contents can cause permanent data loss to the sector that is

NOCDR
No CD-ROM Detected
PC-Doctor could not detect the CD-ROM drive. This
could be because the CD-ROM device driver or the
Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions (MSCDEX) has not been
loaded. PC-Doctor uses MSCDEX and the CD-ROM
device driver to access the CD-ROM drive.
***
SELCDT
Select CD-ROM Test
This menu allows you to select which test will
be performed on your CD-ROM drive. To test the
full functionality of your CD-ROM drive, we
suggest that you run through all tests in the
order that they are in this menu.
Press ESC to exit.
***
CDTEST
CD-ROM Test
This selection provides tests for the CD-ROM drive.
The testing is performed using the functionality of
the Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions (MSCDEX.EXE) and
the CD-ROM device driver. If these are not loaded,
PC-Doctor will not recognize your CD-ROM drive.
***
CDRRES
CD-ROM Reset Failed
This test is performed by running a CD-ROM device
driver command that resets the CD-ROM Drive. Some
device drivers will fail the reset if no CD-ROM
disk is in the drive. To make sure this is not
the case, make sure that there is a CD-ROM disk
in the drive and try this test again. The drive
is likely to have a problem only if it fails this
test continuously.
***
CDROPCL
CD-ROM Tray Open/Close
The CD-ROM Device Driver allows PC-Doctor to send
commands to the CD-ROM that will open and close
the disk tray of the CD-ROM via software control.
This functionality is not implemented in all
CD-ROM drives. And even if the function is
supported by the drive, the CD-ROM device driver
must also support it.
If nothing happens after issuing a command, the
drive does probably not support that function.
Press ESC to exit.
***
CDRINS
CD-ROM Test Disk
Please insert a CD-ROM disk into the CD-ROM drive.
This disk will be used for testing the drive. If
the disk has surface defects, these might cause
PC-Doctor to report errors. For best results you
should repeat testing with a different CD-ROM disk
if you encounter any errors during testing. Only
if errors occur in identical locations in the same
way, is there reason to suspect that the drive is
faulty.
***
CDRNOCD
No CD-ROM Disk Detected
PC-Doctor could not detect a CD-ROM test disk in
the drive. You might get this error message by
mistake, because some CD-ROM device drivers do
not immediately identify a freshly inserted
CD-ROM disk and might indicate to PC-Doctor that
no disk is present even though one is there. If
this is the case, you should try to run this
function again and no more problems should
exist.
***
CDRSP
Speed Factor Selection
PC-Doctor allows you to specify a speed-up factor
that makes CD-ROM testing faster. This is needed
because reading all the information from regular
CD-ROM drives might take up to one hour (if the
speed factor is set to 1). At the highest speed
(speed factor 10), testing will only take 1/10th
of the time it would take with speed factor 1.
Usually making testing faster will not impact the
accuracy of CD-ROM drive testing. However, if you
want to make a thorough test of your drive,
select speed factor 1. Default speed is 5.
Press ESC to abort testing.
***
CDC
Cache Control
PC-Doctor will by default disable the CPU internal
and external caches during memory testing. However,
you can change this behavior so that the cache is
always left turned on, or that the cache alternates
between on and off. In the alternating mode you have
to set the pass count (number of repetitions) to
something higher than 1. Then every odd numbered
repetition (1, 3, etc.) will be executed with cache
disabled and even numbered ones will be run with the
cache enabled.
